Impactos ambientales, bioacumulación y estratégias de mitigación de los microplásticos en ecosistemas acuáticos.

La contaminación por microplásticos en ecosistemas acuáticos constituye una presión ambiental creciente en Ecuador y Latinoamérica, debido a su persistencia, movilidad y presencia en agua superficial, sedimentos, lodos de manglar y organismos acuáticos. El objetivo del estudio fue analizar los impactos ambientales, la bioacumulación y las estrategias de mitigación de los microplásticos en ecosistemas acuáticos, con énfasis en fuentes, matrices, efectos y brechas de gestión. La metodología se desarrolló mediante un enfoque cualitativo, documental, no experimental y exploratorio, basado en el análisis de literatura científica y técnica publicada sobre microplásticos en ambientes continentales, estuarinos y marino-costeros. Los resultados evidencian que las principales rutas de ingreso corresponden a residuos plásticos mal gestionados, descargas urbanas, aguas residuales, pesca, acuicultura y transporte hidrológico; además, se identificó exposición biológica en organismos acuáticos, aunque la biomagnificación regional aún no puede afirmarse de manera concluyente. La discusión muestra que las limitaciones metodológicas, territoriales e institucionales dificultan la comparación de estudios y la formulación de políticas ambientales robustas. Se concluye que la mitigación requiere monitoreo estandarizado, reducción en la fuente, tratamiento de aguas residuales, gestión integral de residuos y economía circular.
